Spinning Quarters

Do you remember when you last spun a quarter? Do you remember how it went?

You flicked the quarter from your fingers, and it spun rapidly. You could almost see a silver globe, to the likings of the earth, except the earth would be blue, green, and white. You can see the gray core of your mini-Earth. There is a shimmering against the light as it is spinning, that anyone else watching can see.

Soon enough, the quarter wobbles. It is almost like hearing a dying flutter of a bird. It flaps and flaps but slows down. You can try to save it by giving it a few flicks with your fingers to snap life back into it, but eventually you might give up. And even sometimes, you can kill it faster with flicking too hard or too soft.

The inevitable comes. The death of the life you had given it. You chose on your part to give the quarter a chance, but it came to a stop. A stop that could be that it had given up or you had given up, or just that it would have never worked out in the first place.

As it makes that final fight with that loud noise that it gives off as it whirs to a stop, you can pick up the same quarter again and try again, if you think it is worth it. Is it worth it?

Inspired from the WongFu Productions short film "A Musing's End".
